Cogstone Resource Management Inc. is committed to being able to respond quickly and effectively to the needs of our clients throughout Southern California.
Cogstone maintains three offices in California. Our primary office and lab facility is located in Santa Ana (central Orange County). This locality houses our administrative and management personnel as well as our research and analyst staff. In 2005, Cogstone opened regional satellite offices to serve our clients in central and northern California.
Cogstone’s offices are equipped with networked computer stations equipped with late-model computers, high-definition scanners, a high-volume color laser printer, digital photographic equipment, mapping/GIS software programs and three binding systems. We have the ability to produce high quality detailed technical reports in-house.
Cogstone maintains an extensive reference library including numerous journals (current and back issues), books, reports and papers covering Paleontology, Geology, History, Archaeology (Historic and Pre-historic), Native American Ethnography & Archaeology, and artifact identification & analysis. Our library also houses a large collection of “gray literature” consisting of unpublished CRM project reports in Archaeology, Paleontology and History.
Our archaeology lab houses artifact processing/analysis facilities for cleaning and stabilizing recovered materials. It is equipped with microscopes, scales, calipers and other necessary equipment. The lab also provides a secure artifact curation area and temporary storage of collections from completed projects until their transport to the repository.
Our paleontology lab is equipped to prepare and preserve fossils recovered from any of the fossil-bearing units in southern California. The preparation lab has a compressor, air scribes, a ventilation system, and a large storage and preparation area.
Our analysis lab contains a substantial comparative bone collection for use in faunal and osteological identification as well as a comprehensive compilation of reference materials for dating and identifying artifacts. Our principal scientists are research associates of local museums and have access to additional specimens as necessary.
Cogstone maintains an extensive collection of field gear at both offices. Our on and off-site storage facilities house field gear and equipment not currently in use but available to our staff as needed. Our cross-trained field personnel keep a field kit with them at all times while on the job. The kit is equipped with the required safety equipment as well as instrumentation for recording data, GPS units for mapping, tools needed for basic excavation, etc. Each has a paleo kit including excavation tools, stabilization solutions, and materials to create plaster jackets to stabilize fossils for removal. When more extensive fieldwork is required, our staff has access to trenching tools, dry and wet screens, and other equipment necessary to perform sampling, testing or excavations.
