About Us

Cogstone Resource Management Inc. (Cogstone) is a California corporation formed in April 2001. We specialize in paleontology, archaeology and history providing services to both public and private-sector clients throughout California, with a growing nationwide presence.

Our team of experience archaeologists and paleontologists meet or exceed the qualifications required by the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation and the Bureau of Land Management. We are experts in the compliance requirements of the Caltrans’ Standard Environmental Reference (SER) guidelines.

Further, key personnel are certified in all municipalities throughout California that maintain lists. In addition, the company maintains strong relationships with local museums, universities, state information centers, and California tribes, contributing to our efficacy as both scientists and preservationists.

We deliver timely, thorough, and cost-effective solutions for compliance needs. We assist clients to meet project compliance requirements under federal, state and local regulations, including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), among others.

Cogged stone

What is a cogstone? Appearing en masse for over 2,000 years—then abruptly disappearing, leaving in their wake no clues as to their purpose or meaning—southern California’s cogged stones represent a great unknown in California prehistory. Their localized range, lack of similarity to anything else, and sheer numbers leave one a bit bewildered as to their purpose.

We offer our clients a highly skilled team of in-house scientists and field personnel; a management staff of experienced leaders; and laboratory facilities needed for effective scientific investigation and environmental compliance.

We have forged strong relationships with clients and partner firms built on foundations of responsiveness, reliability and cost-effectiveness. Our clients are repeat customers who appreciate Cogstone’s solid, dependable deliverables that meet all regulatory compliance requirements.
We are creative problem solvers. Utilizing our knowledge, expertise, and relationship with regulatory agencies, we generate scientifically sound and yet creative solutions. This provides our clients and partners with the best value possible and keeps projects on schedule.
