Ascanio Rincón, PHD

Dr. Rincón is a world-renowned professional vertebrate paleontologist with over three decades of experience in paleontological fieldwork, curation, and research. His past experience includes work as an associate researcher with the Ecology Center at the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research, as laboratory chair for paleontology at the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, as vertebrate paleontology curator at the Museo de Biología de La Universidad del Zulia, and as assistant professor and chair paleontologist for the Centro de Investigaciones Antropológicas, Arqueológicas y Paleontológicas. Universidad Nacional Experimental Francisco de Miranda, among many other positions and duties. He is also a research associate of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. Dr. Rincón has participated in international paleontological projects in Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, France, Trinidad and Tobago, Antarctica, and the United States. He is also a research associate of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. Dr. Rincón has published over 73 research articles in professional scientific journals. He has been working with a variety of fossil such as Dinosaurs, sabertoothed cats, and Glyptodonts, but has been focused on Giant ground sloth taxonomy, and phylogeny. His PhD work was about rodents in tar pits in Venezuela, and his principal interests are the Great Biotic American Interchange through the perspective of Tar Pits deposit in the Americas.
